Cloud Migration Challenges

2 out of 3 enterprise IT professionals surveyed for Cloudera’s 2023 State of the Cloud Report said that cloud migration was a “top challenge”. They worried about the costs associated with making this move. They were also concerned about the lack of well-designed applications to enable these migrations. Perhaps not surprisingly, they also reported that their efforts suffered from a “lack of strategy”.

We have been helping companies manage their IT infrastructure for over two decades now. Over the years, that infrastructure paradigm has inevitably expanded to include the cloud. That includes migrations too. It’s not just about migrating data and applications from on-premises to the cloud. These days, it’s quite common to migrate from one cloud option to another. As the Cloudera report suggests, this move isn’t easy to make. In fact, considering that many times we are looking to migrate legacy applications, I believe that the complexity is even higher.

That’s why we try to approach this carefully and strategically. We have to ensure a complete and organized migration and we also need to do this as fast as we possibly can without disrupting normal operations. We usually focus a lot on automating what can be automated at the beginning and then we shift the focus to optimization as the move settles in.

That allows for a smooth and seamless migration without any nasty surprises.
